The “C” in Christmas ….

What does the “C” in Christmas stand for? This is not a trick question! Rather, take a moment to reflect about the true meaning of Christmas.

The most popular answer is that the “C” stands for Christ. People around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25, Christmas Day. The religious message gives us comfort and joy to know that we are all loved and never alone. This powerful message needs to be heard across the world; no matter of your religious practice.

During the holiday season, we are supposed to be filled with joy and laughter. I am here to say that is not a realistic expectation. Mixed emotions may come to surface as you miss the presence of your loved one. Holiday grief is a real thing and making it through the holiday season is truly difficult. Holiday traditions change with time because life changes every year. I encourage you to find a way to remember your family or friend during the holidays rather an ignoring the subject. Mental health professionals want to increase awareness that the holiday season may increase in stress, anxiety, and depression. Be kind to those who struggle!

On a lighter note… Maybe the “C” means: Claus, cole, candy, crazy, carols, celebration, cheer, charity, crowd, community, cravings, cherish, chocolate, etc.

No matter what the “C” stands for in your life, “Cherish” every moment with family and friends during this holiday season. Give the gift of love to someone!
